3D CBCT Imaging

Our Vatech Green CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) system captures detailed three-dimensional images of your teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures, allowing us to diagnose with greater accuracy and plan treatment with confidence. Depending on your individual needs, we can adjust the scan to focus on a specific area or capture a full-mouth image.

For orthodontic treatment planning, we often obtain a full-mouth scan, which actually exposes you to less radiation than a traditional panoramic and lateral cephalometric x-ray combined. Full-mouth CBCT scans are also valuable for planning dental implants, evaluating impacted wisdom teeth, and other surgical procedures. To put the radiation dose into perspective, a full-mouth scan is approximately equivalent to the amount of background radiation you would receive during a single transcontinental flight.

Although the radiation dose is remarkably low, CBCT provides an incredible amount of diagnostic information that simply isn't visible on conventional 2D x-rays. Three-dimensional imaging allows us to evaluate teeth, bone, roots, nerves, airways, and other anatomical structures with exceptional detail, helping us diagnose conditions earlier and create more precise, personalized treatment plans.

At The Smile Space, every CBCT scan is interpreted not only by your doctor, but also by a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist. This comprehensive review helps ensure that important findings throughout the entire scan—not just the area being treated—are carefully evaluated.

iTero digital 3D intraoral scanner used to create precise digital impressions for crowns, orthodontics, clear aligners, retainers, and night guards at The Smile Space.

Digital 3D Scanning

If you've ever had a traditional goopy dental impression, you'll appreciate the comfort and convenience of our iTero® digital scanner. Using advanced optical imaging technology, the scanner captures thousands of images of your teeth to create a highly accurate three-dimensional digital model—without radiation or messy impression material.

We use the iTero scanner for a wide range of treatments, including crowns, implant crowns, orthodontic treatment planning, clear aligners, retainers, night guards, whitening trays, and other custom dental appliances. Digital scanning is faster, more comfortable, and more accurate than traditional impressions, making your visit easier while improving the precision of your treatment.

The digital scans also allow us to communicate more effectively with our dental laboratory, helping ensure that crowns, implant restorations, night guards, whitening trays, retainers, and other custom appliances fit as accurately as possible. The result is a more comfortable patient experience and a more precise final outcome.

In-House 3D Printing

Using the digital scans from our iTero® scanner, we can create highly accurate three-dimensional models of your teeth right here in our office. These models are used to fabricate custom retainers, clear aligners, and other dental appliances with exceptional precision.

By combining digital scanning with in-house 3D printing, we can streamline the workflow from impression to finished appliance, allowing for a faster turnaround while maintaining a precise fit. This technology helps us deliver personalized care more efficiently while ensuring your appliances are customized specifically for you.

Advanced Cavity Detection

The CariVu™ is an advanced imaging device that helps us detect cavities and cracks using safe, non-ionizing near-infrared light—without additional radiation. It provides valuable information that complements traditional dental x-rays, allowing us to evaluate your teeth more thoroughly.

CariVu™ is especially helpful for children, pregnant patients, and anyone who prefers to minimize radiation exposure whenever appropriate. It also helps us determine the true size and extent of certain cavities, allowing us to monitor early areas of decay when possible or provide more precise, conservative treatment when restoration is needed.

By combining CariVu™ technology with a comprehensive clinical examination and digital x-rays, we can make more informed decisions and help preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
